What makes X Integrator for Women (XIFW) unique?

We are the first and only non-profit organization in South Africa and Africa dedicated to empowering women in tech startups by offering dedicated services. Our holistic, hands-on approach ensures founders receive the support they need without unnecessary bureaucracy. Our service offerings are unique to other incubators.

Absolutely! We welcome applications from startups that are at idea stage. If you have an innovative idea and a vision for the future, we’re here to help you bring it to life. 

No, there are no upfront or any other cost.



We insist that you do enough market research to see if something similar doesn’t exist elsewhere. We have found that many Startups do not do enough research on their idea resulting in duplication and/or wasted resources.



Yes, we support startups across Africa. XIFW is committed to creating a thriving tech ecosystem for women-led businesses throughout the African continent.

The call for applications opens on the 01 November annually and remains open until 31 July the following year. 



Yes, you can. All applications received are evaluated independently and in accordance with our policies. 



No, however due to the large volumes of applications that we continue to receive, we encourage Startups to apply within the open-call timeframe. 

We aim to respond with an acknowledgement of receipt within 48 hrs. Should you not hear from us within this time, then kindly email us on applications@xintegratorforwomen.com and enquire. 

All applications are carefully reviewed and processed. We thereafter start to engage with the Startup and this process may take anything between 3 to 6 months, from date of application received. 



The duration of our program varies based on the unique needs of each startup. Typically, engagements last between 12 to 36 months, with ongoing support as needed.  

No, a panel of experts reviews all applications and thereafter makes a decision. 

All applicants are entitled to one appeal for reconsideration. In this appeal, the applicant must write to us and tell us why they should be reconsidered. All appeals must be emailed to applicationappeal@xintegratorforwomen.com with supporting motivational documentation. 



We do not assist any further.

Yes, we request between a 35 – 55% equity stake in the startups we work with. This helps us sustain and expand our mission of supporting women-led tech businesses while aligning our interests with their success. The equity percentage is based on the stage of the Startup at the time of applying at XIFW. 

Accepted means that XIFW acknowledges receipt of an application. This application will follow the due diligence processes and may require further engagement with a Startup. After engaging with the Startup, a terms of engagement agreement will be offered to the Startup and upon acceptance of this agreement, the application may be approved. Once approved, it means that the Startup has been officially entered into the programs and the exciting stuff now begins. 

Yes, we do. While our primary mission is to empower women founders, we are committed to fostering innovation and inclusivity in the tech ecosystem. Male-owned startups are welcome to apply, provided they align with our vision and programs. 

No, we do not offer direct financial support. Instead, we focus on providing comprehensive technical, strategic, and operational guidance to help you build, grow, and scale your startup successfully.  

While we primarily support tech startups, we are open to working with any business leveraging technology to drive innovation and impact.  

Yes, we do. This is reviewed and discussed on a case-by-case basis.

Refer to our ‘what we do’ section. Anything not listed on our website is included in our Agreement with the Startup.

Yes, mentorship is a core part of our support model. We connect founders with experienced industry professionals who provide guidance, advice, and insights tailored to their specific needs.

FAQ’S – Intellectual Property (Ip) Concerns
Who owns the original intellectual property (IP) of the Startup?

The original intellectual property of any product, software, or innovation remains with the founder or the startup. We do not claim ownership of your original IP, ensuring that you retain full control and rights to your ideas and creations. 

The new IP created through the support program will be co-owned by the Startup and XIFW.



Yes, we will guide you through the process of securing intellectual property protection, such as filing patents, trademarks, or copyrights. While we don’t handle filings directly, we have a panel of legal experts to do this for us.   



No, we take confidentiality very seriously. Any information, ideas, or proprietary details you share with us are protected under strict non-disclosure agreements (NDAs) and our confidentiality policies.  

No, you retain 100% ownership of your original IP. The equity stake we take is tied to the ownership of your company, not your original intellectual property. Any new IP that emerges after you have been entered into our program will be defined in our Agreements with you. 

We implement strict confidentiality agreements with all mentors, partners, and team members involved in your startup’s journey. This ensures that your IP is secure during every phase of our engagement.  

No, all software or tools developed through the program, must only be used for your Startup. 

Similar ideas may arise, but our confidentiality and non-disclosure policies ensure that each founder’s IP remains protected. Additionally, we may encourage collaboration to avoid conflicts. 

Collaboration is encouraged, but we ensure that your intellectual property remains secure. Any shared work or ideas within the program are managed with proper agreements to safeguard all parties’ rights.  



Yes, it is recommended that you have your IP protected, however if you haven’t yet, then don’t worry, it is part of our service offering. 

Your original IP remains yours, even if you exit the program or dissolve your startup. XIFW does not retain any rights to your original intellectual property after your involvement ends. Any new IP identified after you have been entered into our program, remains within our Agreement.



Once entered into the program, XIFW must be consulted with prior to such decisions, as defined in the Agreement. 

No. We don’t directly mediate disputes, but we can provide access to legal experts and resources to help you navigate and resolve any IP-related conflicts.  

Yes. Based on our Agreement, our panel of legal experts will manage this process. 

We provide workshops, mentorship, and access to legal professionals who can help you understand and navigate intellectual property laws relevant to your industry and region. Note: this is country specific and in compliance with a countries legal framework.
